Baby Jackson!

Jackson Jacob Holmes

Born Wednesday August 26th, 2009

at 5: 20 p.m.

21 inches long
9 lbs. 13 oz.

Thank you to everyone who sent their positive thoughts and warm wishes as Jackson entered the world. It has really been an amazing ride so far, it's hard to believe that this little baby who I can't stop staring at is really made from Justin and I and he's ours to keep. :)

On Wednesday I got induced because Mr. Jackson was a week overdue. I got an epidural at 4 cm because it hurt so bad, I was at 8 cm. 30 minutes later.  We were pushing by 2 p.m. and thought the baby would be out by 3:00. However, Jackson took a LOT of hard pushing, an episiotomy, a laceration, and finally at 5:20 I pushed out this HUGE baby. The nurses and my OBGYN were all in shock that this big guy was inside me. I can't believe the emotion that came over Justin and I when we finally saw him and heard his healthy cry. I will never forget it.

We had many visitors while at the beautiful Hoag hospital and scored with ocean view rooms for labor and delivery as well as recovery. Jackson immediately was comfortable breast feeding and really went for it (OW!), however because he is such a big guy and I was only expressing a bit of colostrum he got jaundice. So we had to use formula the last day to make sure he was actually eating and producing stools. I really want to breast feed, I just have nothing yet and he really needs to be fed.

Yesterday they circumcised our little man, made us wait around an extra 4 hours for these light machines to help with the jaundice that we had to take home, and finally we got to go home. Justin drove so slow on the way home, it was really cute. It was so hot here at the house! Uncle Dave surprised us with 3 big fans which makes it a little better. So now Jackson is here to stay!! It was so hard to hook Jackson up to the machine yesterday (I cried, Justin got frustrated) but he is doing a great job today sleeping under the lights (like little oven mits) today. Tomorrow we have to bring him back to Hoag to get his levels checked. I'll give updates.

We love all of you! Thank you for welcoming Jackson to our worlds!

  4. I love him! I totally know how hard it is when your baby is sick, but those light machines do wonders and I'm sure his bilirubin levels will start to go down with their help. Definitely feed him loads, that's the exact reason why Calum's jaundice got so bad-everyone kept telling me it wasn't a problem that he wasn't getting much food the first few days but I wish I had been told that his jaundice was only going to get worse without food to help flush it all out. Your milk will come in soon and then you can decide if breast feeding is for you. Anyway, congrats to you and Justin-I'm so happy for you and the new addition to your family. Everyday will get even more amazing, enjoy every second of it!

  11. What a beautiful baby!!! I am so happy for you guys. I'm sure his jaundice will go away soon - scary but totally common. You're lucky he latched on so quickly - that is awesome! Good luck with everything - these first few weeks are a whirlwind. Take it all in and remember to laugh as much as you can - that will keep you sane! Love ya.
