So Cal Camping

My new crib...the whole tent!
A family that camps together...stays together
Drea and Kevin
Sticks, dirt, rocks, bugs...100% boy
Hitting the birthday boy with a stick
Our little surfer family
Before surfing sans wetsuit in the ocean water...50 some degrees...brrrrrr!
Jackson crawled up and down the hill on the beach chasing waves
I thought we was so cute when he just laid down and watched the waves
Kissy Baby
Just after throwing a rock at dad's head...oops. He was sharing I think.
Burying the baby.
Hey...what's that? My toe?
Leaving Tressles to go back to the campsite
All the camping gang...minus me and Jackson

Last Friday and Saturday night we packed up Justin's truck and headed far, far away to San Mateo Campgrounds on the Camp Pendleton base in San Clemente (total driving time maybe 40 minutes). We joined some of Justin's oldest friends, Drea and Kevin, and a few of their surfer buddies for Kevin's birthday.

We did all the usual camping stuff: put up the tents (Justin brings our whole bedding so he feels at home and an air mattress), watched Jackson play with rocks and dirt and WALK from cooler to cooler, a lot of beer and Black Box wine drinkign (which actually is not bad for a box wine), and cooked great food. Jackson did amazingly well and just "partied" the whole weekend.

On Saturday we walked down to this cool surfer beach (Tressles---just past train tressles imagine that). Justin tried surfing again (he never really got into it) but the water was so cold his surfing didn't last long. Jackson played great at the beach and didn't even eat ANY sand this time. We did bury him in the sand up to his chest...I don't know how he felt about it but we all got a LOT of sun. Jackson actually has an amazing baby tan now.

I always hate on the idea of camping because I love being a homebody these days, but once we were there it was actually so relaxing and fun now I want to plan more trips. A girls camping trip might be the most fun---however I kinda like the idea of relying on the men to start the fires and set up the tents so maybe hotels are more our style. Fun last weekend before I started our "Surfs Up" mini-2 week summer school for Kindergartners this Monday. I won the kids over when I killed the spiders on the playground--it's the little things in life. One boy confided in me today, "I really am a superhero you know." Don't be jealous. :)
