"If she can do it...I can do it."

At the Expo at Disneyland Hotel
So sleepy...had to be IN OUR corral at 5:15 a.m.
Running through Disneyland was SO fun! The other 9 miles were not as fun--but they had bands and cheerleaders along the course so that was fun. My new SnuggBuds (www.snuggbuds.com) cancelled out ALL noise and they don't hurt my ears. LOVE THEM.
We had to wait about 10 minutes to be with the all the princesses but it was worth it. There were character photo opts all over the park.
Choo Choo!!! All aboard.
Angel Stadium in our sights! Got to run home plate and be on the big screen.
New(ish) mommies finished with medal in hand

1/2 Marathon running Grandma!

Ok. Maybe, "If she can do it, I can do it," isn't the best thing to think while trying to gain confidence and energy to run 13.1 miles but it really helps. Looking around the morning of the 1/2 marathon at Disneyland on Sunday morning I actually sought out fellow runners (mostly elderly, overweight, or otherwise impaired) and looked towards them for courage. "If they can do it...I can do it."

I meant to train for this, Hal Higgin's 1/2 Marathon Training Schedule posted on fridge, reservations for the race made in February, BUT after the trip to WA, Abby, Jackson's 1st, moving, summer school...I did NOT run. NOT more than 4 miles since I was at my Dad's house in July. Ruppy was supposed to be my running compadre but she moved to Seattle...thank God for a quick "I'll do it!" from Carrie.

I signed up Justin (had to work so my cousin Amanda ran as Justine), Dave (Jackson's godfather), my MOM (she's been going to the gym all summer), and my aunt Lisa. We all finished. I chased Carrie the last 5 miles, feeling like I was running in sand, but we crossed the finish line together and with a time of 2:37 (12:02 mile split). It was an insanely early morning (3:30 a.m.), fun course running through Disneyland, California Adventure, and Angel Stadium, and a great feeling of accomplishment. My thighs are very sore today but I'm already thinking of doing it again next year. Maybe I'll even get my ass in gear and train this time.

  3. Congratulations on finishing!! You girls are awesome! I would love to do this half sometime - looks like so much fun. However, I'm kind of against having to be in a corral at 5am - yikes!
